New Smyrna Beach, FL (AHN) - A 26-year-old surfer was bitten twice near New Smyrna Beach as he sat on his surfboard, dangling his toes in the murky ocean.

Alexander Zgura is Volusia County's 18th shark bite victim of 2008. He was bitten in an area where other attacks have occurred.

His bites were not life-threatening.

Zgura reportedly suffered two bites, with numerous lacerations, between his knee and ankle, but declined being transported to the nearest medical center, saying he would go by private vehicle.
