August 29, 2008 1:30 p.m. EST Linda Young - AHN Editor Honolulu, HA (AHN) - The bodies of more than a dozen hammerhead sharks were recovered from an illegal gill net in Kane'ohe Bay, a mating area for hammerheads near the Waikalua Fish Pond. All the sharks were pups and they were found by a Nature Conservancy team on patrol in the area on Thursday. The length of the net and the length of time it had been in the water made this net illegal. By law, nets can be no longer than 120, and fishermen must check their nets every two hours and pull them out of the water after four hours. The net that trapped the 16 hammerhead shark pups was about 350 feet long and had been in the water for more than a day.
