August 29, 2008 4:04 p.m. EST Jupiter Kalambakal - AHN News Writer Montreal, Quebec (AHN) - The German unit of Canadian conglomerate Bombardier announced Thursday that it won a $138 million contract from the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality in Turkey for the supply of 30 units of its Flexity Swift high-floor light rail vehicles. The contract also includes delivery of spare parts, and an option to buy additional 28 vehicles, according to Bombardier Transportation statement. The vehicles will be assembled at a Bombardier plant in Bautzen, Germany with various supplies and parts coming from the company's Siegen and Mannheim plants. The units are expected for delivery in 2010. The vehicles, which are equipped by Bombardier's own Mitrac propulsion and control system, will be commissioned to the existing light rail system in Bursa including its new extension. The new vehicles are bi-directional, 28 meters (31 yards) in length and 2.65 meters (3 yards) in width. Each unit has a capacity of 287 passengers, 60 of which are seated. To date, Bursa has ordered a total of 813 vehicles. Bombardier's light rail vehicles have been deployed in Istanbul and Izmir, Turkey, Stockholm, Sweden, Cologne, Germany, Minneapolis, USA and Rotterdam, Netherlands.
