August 29, 2008 4:32 p.m. EST Matthew Harvey - AHN Sports Reporter San Jose, CA (AHN) - Marc-Edouard Vlasic had his contract extended for four more years, keeping him with the San Jose Sharks through the 2013 season. The contract was signed Wednesday, and will be worth $12.4 million dollars. "Marc-Edouard is one of the top young defenseman in the game and we are excited to have him in the fold for the next several years," Shark General Manager Doug Wilson said in a statement. "He has a tremendous future with this franchise and we look forward to watching his continued development." In 2006-07, Vlasic posted 26 points in 83 games during his rookie year. He was voted to the NHL's All-Rookie Team. As a defenseman, he had 132 blocked shots, which ranked second amongst all NHL rookies in the entire league. Vlasic was drafted by the Sharks in 2005, No. 35 overall. He has made it clear that he wants his stay with them to be a long-term arrangement.
