August 30, 2008 9:26 p.m. EST Joanna Mazewski - Celebrity News Service Editor Pompano Beach, FL (CNS) - He may be Captain Jack Sparrow for millions on the silver screen, but on Friday night Hollywood heavyweight Johnny Depp was just one of the guys as he jammed with his reunited band The Kids in front of a small audience of 2,500. Celebrity News Service was there for the Sheila Witkin Memorial concert at Club Cinema in Pompano Beach, Fla., in honor of the late band manager who passed away in 2006 at age 66. Witkin was an icon for the South Florida rock community who worked for Sony music and was best known for her volunteer work in helping raise money for children afflicted by cancer, leukemia and HIV/AIDS. Some of South Florida's most powerful bands from the 1970s and 80s - including Slyder, Tight Squeeze, and The Kids - took the stage and brought back found memories of powerful punk-rock music which once played a huge part in Broward County's cultural and musical history. The first Sheila Witkin Memorial Concert took place in January 2007, also at Club Cinema, and is the focus of the documentary film, "Rock and a Hard Place: Another Night at the Agora," which highlights the area's local bands of that era. Once a local South Florida high schooler and Miramar resident, Depp - dressed in a ripped basic tee and jeans - looked at ease on stage with his band members as they rocked out to their old hits such as "Time to Explain," "Can't Believe," and "Babe." Even though the audience had to wait until past midnight for The Kids to finally take the stage, the entire venue roared with approval throughout their 90-minute set. Depp's long-term girlfriend, French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis along with their 9-year-old daughter, Lily-Rose, were spotted above the stage in the venue's box seats. All proceeds from the concert helped benefit the Sheila Witkin and the Dan Marino Foundations.
