Chicago, IL (AHN) - United Airlines will implement another round of increases in its domestic round trip tickets by as much as $20 to recover fuel costs, its 22nd attempt and 12th fare hike for the year.
The Chicago Tribune reported that flights of 751 miles or more had the biggest, $20 round-trip increases citing United spokeswoman Robin Urbanski in an e-mailed statement.
Ticket prices rose by $10 on round trip on flights of up to 400 miles and on flights that compete with budget airlines.
Carriers have been struggling to cope with soaring fuel costs over the past year. Airlines, however, scrap fare hikes if other carriers don't match them.
Airlines also slashed domestic capacity during the third and fourth quarters by single- to double-digit margins.
