Wayne, NJ (AHN) - Toys "R" Us is taking safety measures on crib products to a higher level by requiring benchmarks over government and industry safety rules.
The stringent measures include specific trees crib makers could use, the way spindles are attached to crib railings and the glue used. The toy stores threatened to ban crib makers which would not follow their new rules.
Toys "R" Us recalled in June 320,000 cribs manufactured by Jardine Enterprises over 42 incidents of crib spindles breaking, which trapped four children and hurt two.
The higher standards for crib production is one of the measures Toys "R" Us has initiated to ensure the protection of consumers. In its website, Storch disclosed that the store has partnered with Safe Kids Worldwide, the world's number one childhood injury prevention group, to provide and disseminate vital information on childhood safety.
The toy chain's programs has five components - summer safety, baby safety, Halloween safety, holiday toy safety and travels safety.
