Jacksonville, FL (AHN) - Jaguars' offensive tackle Richard Collier remains under observation by doctors following a shooting incident Tuesday.

According to the police, the 26-year-old Collier, together with former teammate Kenneth Pettway, were shot at by a still unidentified gunman around 2:45 a.m. in a middle-class neighborhood near downtown Jacksonville Tuesday.

Collier, who was sitting in the front seat of his Cadillac Escalade, sustained several gunshot wounds but is unclear what part of his body was hit.

Pettway was not wounded.

The motive of the shooting is still being determined, while the sheriff's office is still investigating any possible suspects.

Collier's family have requested for privacy while awaiting results from the player's surgery at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center.

Meanwhile, Collier's teammates are trying to get by after the incident.

Several of Collier's teammates met Tuesday for a prayer session.

The Jaguars are scheduled to meet Tennessee in their season opener Sunday.

Tuesday's shooting is the third incident involving NFL players in the past 18 months.

In November, Washington Redskins' star Taylor was wounded following a foiled burglary, while Broncos Williams was shot dead after a New Year's party last year.
