September 4, 2008 4:36 p.m. EST Matthew Harvey - AHN Sports Reporter Detroit, MI (AHN) -- The Red Wings have finalized terms with veteran defenseman Chris Chelios, keeping one of the most venerable legends active another season. The 46 year-old veteran still has some kick left in him. He's a three-time Norris Trophy winner, played in 69 games last season, and even took home a Stanley Cup to Chicago. The 24 year veteran defenseman has played in 1,616 NHL games, and has spent just shy of 48 hours in the penalty box. To put it another way - some DUI offenders see less time in confinement. Chelios is also one of the only players to represent USA Hockey in four different Winter Games - 1984, 1998, 2002 and 2006. It's expected that he will see a few less games this season, and will be more utilized in a mentor/coach type role. He's being paid $850,000 to show.
