September 4, 2008 4:45 p.m. EST Vittorio Hernandez - AHN News Writer Ottawa, Ontario (AHN) - Canada announced on Thursday the replacement of incumbent Ambassador to Afghanistan Arif Lalani with Ronn Hoffman. Prior to his promotion, Hoffman was deputy head of mission at the Canadian embassy in Kabul, the capital city. He has been with the Foreign Affairs since 1989 and was assigned in the past to the Canadian embassies in The Hague, The Netherlands; Johannesburg, South Africa; Beijing, China; and London, England. Lalani will join the Munk Center for International Studies of the University of Toronto as a senior visiting fellow. The Afghanistan post is a vital one for Canada because of the deployment of Canadian troops to battle the Taleban in Kabul and other Afghan provinces.
