September 4, 2008 8:42 p.m. EST Matt Aug - AHN Sports Editor East Rutherford, NJ (AHN) - New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress received a new five-year, $35 million contract Thursday, just hours before the team takes the field for its season-opener vs. the Washington Redskins. The defending Super Bowl champions rewarded one of the key components of their title, as Burress collected the game-winning pass with 35 seconds remaining to defeat the Patriots. Burress was outstanding the entire season, nabbing 70 receptions for 1,025 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2007. Although the Giants already had a deal in place for three more years with the wideout, they decided to restructure it to keep Burress happy. The deal is top-heavy, with Burress set to bank $11 million this season. The ninth-year receiver has 470 lifetime catches for 7,391 yards and 51 touchdowns.
