Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Hollywood celebrities will turn out in force Friday night for a live fundraiser called "Stand Up to Cancer" in an effort to emphasize the fact that cancer really does impact everyone. Joining the stars in a show of unity, ABC, CBS and NBC will all air the show live at 8/7c.

Celebrity News Service always likes it when the famous folks turn their attention to helping others, and this show will be no exception. Stars from TV, film, music and sports will not only perform, but will also man the phones during the commercial-free telethon.

The money raised through the fundraiser will go towards research efforts. The hour-long show will also feature reports on cancer related topics by the big news anchor from each of the big networks.

Dana Delany, who currently stars on "Desperate Housewives," is taking part in the event. Her father died of pancreatic cancer and she has best friend who is a breast cancer survivor. During the show Delany will be filmed getting a mammogram.

News anchor Katie Couric, whose husband died of cancer, told TV Guide that she believes cancer is a national emergency. "This is a different kind of national emergency. We need to help move science forward and fund a lot of this promising research that isn't getting the kind of money it needs...It's so great because a lot of people are just going to be answering phones, so somebody calling in can make a pledge and they'll be able to talk to America Ferrera or Jennifer Aniston or Salma Hayek. Hopefully, that will be an incentive to give even more," Couric said.

Some of the stars on hand for Friday night's telethon include cancer survivors Lance Armstrong, Christina Applegate, Elizabeth Edwards and Fran Drescher. Also taking part in the show will be Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tony Hawk, Marg Helgenberger, Kyra Sedgwick and Balthazar Getty.

It sounds like it's going to be a star-studded event with everyone working together for a good cause. Way to go Hollywood!
