September 5, 2008 10:16 a.m. EST Vittorio Hernandez - AHN News Writer Frankfurt, Germany (AHN) - German air carrier Lufthansa announced Thursday the addition of flights to India, including daily trips between Munich and Mumbai. The new routes will add to the existing 55 Lufthansa journeys to seven Indian cities, which comprises one-fourth of the airline's Asia-Pacific flights. The new flights comes on the heels of the introduction in July of six weekly non-stop flights between Pune and Frankfurt, making it the first German air carrier to connect Frankfurt and India's eighth largest city which hosts many global IT firms. The addition of more flights is the result of the extension in April of an air traffic agreement between the two nations. By 2009, Air India will become a part of Star Alliance, which counts Lufthansa as a member. The German air carrier started to fly to India four decades ago. In August, Lufthansa launched its Specials program which covered 50 destinations worldwide. It includes round-trip tickets to the U.S. for as low as $569 (399 euro), valid throughout autumn and winter.
