Chicago, IL (AHN) - Ford Motor Co. will start a single shift a day for its Chicago plant assembly line in November.

Dow Jones reported that Ford has been cutting production all year due to poor sales. In August sales fell to over 26 percent from the same month last year.

The American carmaker will cut 600 part-time jobs, while a number of regular employees may be laid off at the plant, according to a Ford spokesperson as cited by media reports.

The plant, located on Chicago's southeast side, assembles Ford Taurus, Ford Taurus X Crossover, Mercury Sable and Lincoln MKS. The plant has about 2,200 employees.

Some jobs may also be removed at Ford's Chicago Heights stamping plant, which manufactures body panels for units built in Chicago.
