September 5, 2008 3:57 p.m. EST Jupiter Kalambakal - AHN News Writer New York, NY (AHN) - Cablevision Systems Corp. launched Thursday what it claims to be the country's largest and most advanced consumer Wi-Fi network. The new service covers Nassau County and areas of Suffolk County including commuter rail and parking areas in New York's Long Island. The Wi-Fi, which is free of charge to Cablevision's Optimum broadband customers, has connection speeds of up to 1.5 Megabits per second- the same speed of a domestic DSL connection. The Long Island rollout is the first phase of Cablevision's $310 million project to provide Wi-Fi service to its 2.4 million Internet customers in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The network's infrastructure was supplied by Cisco and BelAir Networks.
