Jupiter Kalambakal - AHN News Writer Toronto, Ontario (AHN) - Canadian group Bombardier announced Friday that its aerospace division signed a $118 million contract with Austrian Airlines for the supply of four Turboprop airplanes for the carrier's regional airline, while its locomotive division signed a supply deal with Danish state railway DSB for 10 Contessa trains worth $117 million. MarketWire reported that Austrian Airlines will purchase four Q400 NextGen turboprop airplanes from Bombardier Aaerospace, with an option to buy additional two aircraft. The contract value is estimated at $118 million but will increase to $179 million if both options are exercised. The turboprops will be operated by Austrian Airlines' regional unit Tyrolean Airways under the brand Austrian Arrows. The Q400 NextGen model is known for its low fuel consumption and spacious and comfortable passenger cabin. Bombardier has been supplying the Austrian carrier airplanes and jets since the 1980s. Orders for the firm's Q400 and Q400 NextGen airliners are now at 317, 210 of which were shipped as of July 31. Bloomberg reported that DSB has ordered 10 Contessa units worth $117 million, which is seen to boost services between the Baltic-Sweden link. DSB has an option to buy 30 additional units. The three-car Contessa trains automatically shift signaling and power systems when crossing the border, allowing them to operate in both countries, according to MarketWire. DSB has been using Contessa units on the Oeresund bridge for the past eight years. Passenger traffic increased after commuter travel between Copenhagen and southern Sweden became popular.
