September 7, 2008 6:12 a.m. EST Jupiter Kalambakal - AHN News Writer Dulles, VA (AHN) - GeoEye Inc. announced Saturday the successful launch and deployment of GeoEye-1, a high-resolution commercial Earth-imaging satellite. GeoEye-1 was built and designed using the General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems. Its ground station is located in Norway, according to RTT News. The satellite will orbit 423 miles above Earth. The satellite will gather images daily at high-resolution "pan-sharpened" format surface areas equal to the size of New Mexico, CNET reported citing a company statement. Compared with most commercial satellite imagery, which has a resolution of 60 centimeters, GeoEye-1 could gather imagery with details the size of 41 centimeters. Google, which has a permit to use the satellite's images, is limited to a resolution of 50 centimeters due to a GeoEye license with the U.S. government.
