October 2, 2008 11:47 a.m. EST Anne Lu - Celebrity News Service News Writer Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Another strike is threatening to cripple the film and TV industry. The Screen Actors Guild's negotiating committee has submitted a recommendation to the National Board for a strike. The actors are still negotiating for a new contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, after their contract expired in June. SAG is fighting for fair contracts, with the Internet residuals still continue to be a sticking point in their stalled talks with the AMPTP. As per the advisory motion approved by the negotiating committee, the negotiators "have requested that the AMPTP return to the bargaining table to negotiate a fair deal" and that the AMPTP "has refused to change their position and continued to refuse to meet to attempt to advance the negotiations." The SAG needs authorization vote from its 120,000 members before it can go ahead with the strike. As for AMPTP's response, they blame the country's economic situation for their unrelenting stance. They said in a statement, "Not only is the business suffering from recent economic decisions, but if ever there was a time when Americans wanted the diversions of movies and TV, it is now." "The DGA, WGA, and AFTRA reached agreements on comparable terms months ago, during far better economic times, and it is unrealistic for SAG negotiators now to expect even better terms during this grim financial climate. This is the harsh economic reality, and no strike will change that reality."
