October 2, 2008 3:43 p.m. EST Linda Young - AHN Editor Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - Actor House Peters, Jr., a television actor who portrayed the original "Mr. Clean" in Proctor & Gamble commercials on TV, has died at age 92 of pneumonia. Peters' acting career spanned 1935-1967. Although he was well-known for portraying "Mr. Clean" from the late 1950s to the early 1960s, his acting career also included many supporting roles. He appeared with Roy Rogers and Gene Autry on their television shows and in "Flash Gordon," "Perry Mason," "Gunsmoke," "The Twilight Zone" and "Lassie." His later career later included roles in "The Day the Earth Stood Still," "Rebel Without a Cause" and "Man from God's Country." He died Wednesday at the Motion Picture and Television Fund Hospital in Los Angeles. He was born Jan. 12, 1916 in Rochelle, New York, to actor parents. His father, House Peters Sr. acted in silent movies and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Peters is survived by his wife, Lucy Pickett, a daughter, two sons and four grandchildren.
