London, Britain (CNS) - Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell has shown that she knows more than just how to sing and dance, the girl can write. Halliwell was named the U.K.'s 2008 best-selling children's author.
The former Ginger Spice has published a series of kid's books starring a fictional heroine Ugenia Lavender, who is 9 years-old. Halliwell, 36, began writing the books in 2004 and in April of 2007, it was announced that she had struck a six book deal with Macmillan Children's Books.
The first book, Ugenia Lavender, was published in the U.K in May of 2008. Books 2, 3, 4 and 5 have followed respectively in June, July, August, September and October.
The books became a surprise hit in the children's literature market, quickly becoming a top seller. WHSmith, a British retailer, named Halliwell the most successful celebrity author.
Halliwell is ecstatic about the success, saying, "I'm so happy that everyone loves Ugenia as much as I do."
