Oklahoma Still The One In 'AHN Top 10' College Football Rankings

(AHN) - The Top 10 avoided a major shakeup one week after a rash of upsets wreaked havoc on the rankings.

Oklahoma kept a firm hold on No. 1 as did Missouri at No. 2.Only third-ranked Alabama showed signs of weakness, holding off Kentucky after failing to put the Wildcats away early because of turnovers.

There were no changes in the rankings, with Florida routing Arkansas to stay No. 10 and keep Ohio State from re-entering the Top 10.

1. Oklahoma (5-0): The Sooners blistered Baylor in a tune-up for their annual clash with fifth-ranked Texas in the Red River Rivalry in both team's toughest test to date. (Last week: 1)

2. Missouri (5-0): Doubts have been raised about the Tigers' defense, but with their offense led by Heisman Trophy candidate and quarterback Chase Daniel putting up prolific numbers each week any weaknesses on D' may not matter. (Last week: 2)

3. Alabama (6-0): The Crimson Tide survived a turnover rash to edge Kentucky 17-14, its second game that saw the offense struggle. Red flag? (Last week; 3)

4. LSU (5-0): The Tigers took a week off to brace for a rugged three-game Southeastern Conference stretch at Florida, at South Carolina and at home against Georgia. (Last week: 4)

5. Texas (5-0: The Longhorns trampled Colorado 38-14 and had quietly went unscathed with Big 12 rivals Oklahoma and Missouri drawing more attention. That won't be the case any longer with Oklahoma up next. (Last week: 5).

6. USC (3-1): The Trojans quickly put its loss to Oregon State in the rear view mirror, trouncing Oregon 44-10 behind quarterback Mark Sanchez. (Last week: 6)

7. Penn State (6-0): The Nittany Lions continued to roll through their schedule and now comes a major challenge against three Big 10 heavyweights -- a road game at Washington, a home date with Michigan and another road test at Ohio State. (Last week: 7)

8. Texas Tech (5-0): The Red Raiders are rolling through a soft schedule behind a potent offense and now get to face Nebraska's leaky defense that did little to slow Missouri in a 52-17 loss. (Last week: 8)

9. Georgia: (4-1): The Bulldogs had an open week to prepare for its Southeastern Conference East clash with Tennessee, not that they needed extra time to prepare for the struggling Vols. (Last week: 9)

10: Florida (4-1): The Gators beat up hapless Arkansas 38-7 and take this week off before hosting Kentucky ahead of road games at Georgia and South Carolina.

The "AHN Top 10'' will attempt to balance rankings based on the top teams in college football while considering who is playing the best in a given-week.

The rankings are the sole opinion of the author.
