October 7, 2008 11:43 a.m. EST AHN Staff Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Just hours before they meet for their second debate, Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Barack Obama (D-IL) launched competing TV ads on Tuesday. McCain's spot says Obama "calls every question about his record a lie," while Obama's ad quotes a McCain adviser saying they are bound to lose if the race continues to focus on the economy. McCain's 30-second spot entitled "Hypo," begins with a question he and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin have repeated frequently in the past days, "Who is Barack Obama?" Video is then shown of a KMOV TV anchor saying, "Obama's presidential campaign is asking Missouri law enforcement to target anyone who lies or runs a misleading television ad." An announcer says, "How hypocritical," before citing reports from FactCheck.org and ABC. Obama's Social Security attack was called 'a falsehood.' His health care attack... 'misleading.' Obama's stem cell attack... 'not true.' Barack Obama. He promised better. He lied," the announcer says. In its email announcing the ad, McCain also says Obama will continue to launch "false and misleading attacks" against the Arizona senator during the debate Tuesday night. Obama also began running an ad nationwide that accused McCain of resorting to smear tactics because "he's out of ideas... running out of time... with no plan to lift our economy up." The spot entitled "Subject" features a McCain advisor telling the New York Daily News, "If we keep talking about the economic crisis, we're going to lose." "But as Americans lose their jobs, homes and savings, it's time for a President who'll change the economy. Not change the subject," an announcer in the ad concludes.
