AHN Staff Sacramento, CA (AHN) - California's state secretary sent back Tuesday the recall petition against Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to the state prison guards union for revision. State secretary Debra Bowen gave the California Correctional Peace Officers Association 10 days to include the governor's response to its petition and the corrected format for listing addresses of signers. Bowen said the inclusion of the response of the person to be recalled in the petition is a legal requirement under California's Elections Code. The union submitted the recall petition on Sept. 29 on grounds of poor performance by the governor and his alleged mismanagement of the state's finances. Schwarzenegger claimed the petition was in retaliation for his non-renewal of their expired service contract with the state government. The governor's response to the petition is already available being filed on Sept. 17 but the union did not include it in the petition.
