October 9, 2008 10:07 a.m. EST Anne Lu - Celebrity News Service News Writer Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Scarlett Johansson gets political in a new interview with CosmoGirl magazine. Gracing the cover of its November issue, the newly married movie star dons a smile and a peace sign as she talks about politics. The 23-year-old actress - who has recently married actor Ryan Reynolds - says celebrity endorsements as "unavoidable" in this day and age. She explains, "In this day and age, the media has this 24-hour news cycle that they need to fulfill their obligation to. And it seems like celebrities are a huge part of that, so it just seems unavoidable. It's important to bring to light certain issues." "If this spotlight is already shining on me and I feel like there's a worthwhile cause, then why not direct it toward that? I hope that my [involvement] encourages the youth population to go out and inform themselves." Johansson also reveals her thoughts on equality saying, "I think that we still live in a country that's sexist and racist. Those are issues that we deal with whether we want to ignore it or not." More of "The Other Boleyn Girl" star's political sentiments in the November issue of CosmoGirl magazine.
