Linda Young - AHN Editor Gary, IN (AHN) - A Gary, Indiana woman was killed and her newborn injured after a fire truck slammed into her car as she drove through an intersection. Lakecia Rozier, 24, was pronounced dead on the scene just after 5 p.m. Wednesday, her baby is recovering in a hospital. Preliminary reports indicate Rozier failed to yield the right of way to the fire truck, causing the accident. All the other cars at the intersection had stopped for the fire truck, which was headed to a fire with lights flashing, sirens wailing and horns honking. Witnesses said they could hear the fire truck up to two blocks away. Investigators are looking into whether Rozier was using a cell phone at the time of the crash, it is illegal to use one without a hands-free device in Gary. State police are reportedly also checking with witness accounts to determine if she ran a red light.
