Alamo, TN (AHN) - A rampaging donkey was shot and killed by a sheriff's sniper after several tranquilizer darts failed to stop it from running down a highway and acting aggressively to cars.

Crockett County Sheriff's Office put in a call for help to the Madison County Sheriff's Office after one of two burros who escaped from a farm on Tuesday crossed into Madison County on Wednesday.

The 350 pound beast rammed into a Crockett County Sheriff's patrol car. It also ran down U.S. 412 highway causing drivers to swerve to avoid hitting the animal after it had been tranquilized by Madison County Rabies Control officers.

At that point officials decided to act before the burro caused a traffic accident and a Madison County Sheriff's Office sniper shot and killed the donkey.

The other donkey that escaped from Claude M. Conley's farm next to the Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo was luckier. It was captured alive and returned to the farm.
