Philadelphia, PA (AHN) - June Manuel, mother of Phillies manger Charlie Manuel, died Friday after brief illness at the age of 87.

Manuel was present in the dugout Friday afternoon for game two of the National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, just hours after getting the news.

The Phils took a 2-0 lead in the seven-game series with an 8-5 victory over the Dodgers.

Manuel will leave the team after Friday's game and miss Saturday's workout.

Several players from both teams and Dodgers manager Joe Torre stopped to offer Manuel their condolences before the game.

June Manuel lived in Buena Vista, Va., where Manuel grew up. She is survived by 10 children.

Funeral arrangements are pending and are likely to be held near Roanoke (Va.) Memorial Hospital, where she spent her last hours.
