Abilene, Texas (AHN) - Suspended teacher Kaleb Tierce was formally indicted by a Taylor County grand jury on one count of an improper relationship between an educator and a student and two counts of attempted improper relationship between an educator and student, after reportedly asking for sex for better grade.

The 26-year-old Tierce could face a maximum of 10 years in prison. He was temporarily released after paying a bond of $30,000.

Records show Tierce, who was teaching pre-Advanced Placement English at the Jim Ned high School in Tuscola and at the same time assistant football coach, was suspended and placed on paid leave on October 2007 after the parent of his ninth-grade student filed a complaint.

The complaint stemmed from Tierce's decision to assign the book "Child of God" by Cormac McCarthy to the girl for a book report. The book, which contains graphic description of sex and violence, was seen as offensive by the girl's parent and filed the complaint.

He was suspended despite the book on the "approved list" of the school.

Tierce was charged anew by the sheriff's department after one of his girl student complained that he invited him to his house and then reportedly kissed her and exposed himself to her.

Another girl told authorities the teacher asked her "what she would be willing to do for a better grade." He was also accused of asking another girl for sex.

Meanwhile, in Wisconsin, 36-year-old Todd M. Strang, a high school teacher in Lafayette County is facing two counts of felony for allegedly engaging in sex with a student while employed at the school.
