FCC To Proceed With Free Nationwide Wi-Fi

Seattle, WA (AHN) - With a report saying there is minimal potential interference with other wireless carrier networks, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is now unstoppable for the auctioning of a new spectrum that would ensure broadband services nationwide.

FCC has released a report last Friday, meant to ease the worries of mobile carrier T-Mobile regarding the use of the 2,155 - 2,175 MHz band for Wi-Fi services.

The Germany- based network operator is reportedly one of the strong opponents of using the Advanced Wireless Services (ASW) -3 band for Wi-Fi services, especially after investing $4 billion for the ASW-1 spectrum, which its 3G network relies on.

It said that such interference could leave its paying customers unable to use their devices

The FCC, however, conducted interference tests in early September near Seattle, and Friday's report showed that these concerns were overblown.
