October 16, 2008 6:48 p.m. EST AHN Sports Staff Salt Lake City, UT (AHN) - BYU basketball player Chris Collinsworth and a companion were stabbed while doing mission work Tuesday in Australia. No arrests have been made and the injuries were not life-threatening. The 19-year-old Collinsworth and his missionary companion, David Ferguson, 21, sustained "multiple non-life threatening stab wounds in an unprovoked attack " while returning home. Both were hospitalized after the incident. According to the police report, Collinsworth was attacked by still unidentified men and was stabbed in the process. Ferguson tried to help but got stabbed in the hand and thigh. A passing motorist pulled up and started yelling and pounding his horn, eventually scaring Collinsworth's attackers. Collinsworth was reportedly discharged from Westmead Hospital Wednesday, while Ferguson was released Thursday. Last season, Collinsworth posted averages of 3.2 points, 4.8 rebounds in 35 games while playing as a freshman for Brigham Young University. The 6-9 forward, who has been in Australia for only six months, is on a two-year mission. In the meantime, officials of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are coordinating with the Australian authorities to solve the case.
