Troutdale, OR (AHN) - FedEx Corp. has purchased 77 acres of land from the Port of Portland in an industrial estate in Troutdale that would be the future site of a $102 million distribution center.
The new facility, which will employ 1,000 workers, will replace an existing distribution center on Swan Island that employs 500.
The new FedEx property is within the 700-acre Reynolds Industrial Site, formerly owned by Reynolds Metals Co., a subsidiary of Pittsburgh-based Alcoa Inc. The port bought the Reynolds property for $17.25 million in December.
FedEx's new facility is ideally situated due to its proximity to Interstate 84, the Columbia River and Portland International Airport.
The port plans to develop the area in three phases covering 350 acres, while the rest will remain wetlands.
