Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Speaking on James Dobson's "Focus on Family" radio show on Wednesday, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said she is confident that "the right thing" will happen come election day because she has put the presidential race in "God's hands."

Responding to a question from the evangelical leader about recent polls showing Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) trailing in key states and nationwide, Palin said she wasn't discouraged because she has frequently found herself in "underdog situations" where everything turned out for the better.

"I know at the end of the day putting this in God's hands, the right thing for America will be done, at the end of the day on Nov. 4," she added.

Dobson, chairman of a conservative non-profit called Focus on the Family and host of a long-time radio program of the same name, has not endorsed McCain. He said in February his decision to endorse former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee was due in part because of McCain's "record on the institution of the family and other conservative issues."

But a few months ago Dobson softened his opposition against McCain. "I never thought I would hear myself saying this... While I am not endorsing Senator John McCain, the possibility is there that I might," he said on his radio show.

He made his remark a few weeks after 100 Christian conservative leaders met in Denver and agreed to rally behind McCain rather than face the possibility of having Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) as president.

On Wednesday, Dobson praised Palin for her opposition to abortion. The first-term governor has been applauded by conservatives for staying true to her pro-life stance and committing to support her five-month old son with Down Syndrome.
