San Francisco, CA (AHN) - The National Asian American Survey revealed that an average 34 percent of Asian-American voters are still undecided whether to vote for Republican nominee Arizona Sen. John McCain or Democratic nominee Illinois Sen. Barack Obama.

Manila-based Philippine Daily Inquirer reported that these undecided voters could impact swing states during the presidential race.

The NAAS identified Virginia, Nevada and Washington as battleground states, where five percent or more of the voting population are Asian Americans, according to the recent issue of San Francisco-based publication Asian Week.

NAAS showed 41 percent of Asian Americans will likely vote for Obama as against 24 percent who are likely to support McCain. In battleground states, Obama leads with 43 percent compared to McCain's 22 percent.

The survey also analyzed Asian-American ethnic subgroups: two-thirds of Vietnamese Americans favor McCain, while Japanese Americans, Chinese Americans and Indian Americans support Obama by more than a 3-1 ratio.

Korean Americans and Filipino Americans will likely vote for Obama over McCain by a margin of approximately 1.4-1.

In total, 32 percent of Asian Americans identify themselves as Democrats; 14 percent as Republicans; 19 percent as independents; and 35 percent as non-partisan.

NAAS, jointly undertaken by Rutgers University, University of California and University of Southern California, polled over 4,000 participants nationwide through interviews conducted in eight Asian languages last August and September.
