A spokesman for the 76-year old lawmaker is quoted as saying Kennedy will travel to his residence near the Capitol. "He hasn't been there for months and he thought this would be a good time to be back. He plans to return to the Cape for Thanksgiving," the spokesman added.
Kennedy, the second most senior member of the Senate, underwent brain surgery on June 2 after being diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. The diagnosis was made after he suffered two seizures in May. He has been undergoing treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital.
He suffered a seizure on Sept. 26 while at home in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, but the attack was mild and he went home that night to watch the first presidential debate between Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Barack Obama (D-IL), whom he has endorsed.
Kennedy, who chairs the Senate Committee on Health, made his first public appearance since his surgery in July, during a Senate vote on a controversial Medicare bill. His entrance into the Senate floor had prompted a standing ovation from colleagues.
He later stole the show during the opening night of the Democratic National Convention in Denver. He had said, recalling his 1980 landmark convention address, "The work begins anew, the hope rises again and the dream lives on."
