Washington, D.C. (AHN) - The first polls in the nation's general election opened early morning Tuesday.
Voters in eleven states on the East Coast have begun casting their ballots. Polls in Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Virginia opened at 6am ET. Polls in North Carolina, Ohio and West Virginia followed suit a half hour later.
The weather forecast for the region is mild, with warm weather in the Northeast. Highs will range from 50 degrees to the mid-70s.
The first votes of the general election, however, were cast hours earlier as New Hampshire continued the tradition of its town, Dixville Notch, of opening its polls for voting at midnight. Of the 21 registered voters among the town's 75 people, Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) won over Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) by a margin of 15 votes to 6.
Polls across the country are scheduled to open hourly until noon. AHN will have regular updates.
