Kris Alingod - AHN Contributor Jackson, MS (AHN) - Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) won the special election Tuesday night for the seat of former Senate Majority LeaderTrent Lott, who Lott resigned last year before the end of his six-year term in 2012. Wicker received 56 percent of votes from 90 percent of precincts. His Democratic opponent, Ronnie Musgrove, captured 44 percent. The former Republican congressman will serve out the remaining four years of Lott's term. Lott announced his resignation December 2007 after having served 16 years in the House and 19 years in the Senate. Wicker had been appointed by Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour as the interim replacement for Lott's seat.
