Buddy Shacklette - AHN Sports Reporter Avondale, AZ (AHN) - A final West Coast trip in the season and the points lead has equated to an appearance on the tonight show for two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson. Johnson, a native of California, will appear on 'Tonight Show with Jay Leno' Thursday when the late-night show is broadcasts at 11:35 p.m. on NBC. The 33-year old driver is on the fringe of making NASCAR history by becoming only the second driver to ever win three consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series titles in a row - Cale Yarborough is the only driver to have done it 30 years ago. Johnson leads Carl Edwards in the points races by 106 with two races left in the season, including stops this weekend in Phoenix and next weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The proximity of the show's Los Angeles studios and Johnson being in nearby Phoenix was a perfect fit before Johnson returns to the East Coast following Sunday's race.
