November 8, 2008 4:19 a.m. EST
Ann Arbor, MI (AHN) - Trucking firm Con-Way Freight Inc. announced the closing of four Ohio service centers in Lancaster, Lima, Mansfield and Mentor, whose services will be integrated with other Con-Way centers in the state.
The move is part of a major network improvement, which would re-engineer routing and reduce the miles traveled.
Con-way did not announce any job cuts.
Employees from the affected centers will be transferred to other locations such as Sidney, Toledo, Milan, Upper Sandusky, Uniontown, Urichsville or Columbus with corresponding relocation pay. However, if employees decide not to relocate, they will be given separation pay.
Upon completion of the network change, Con-way will operate 20 services centers in Ohio, employing over 1,300 people.
Con-way handles less-than-truckload cargo from more than one customer in each container van, which are redistributed within the company's transport chain.
