Mike Rothman - AHN Sports Contributor Boston, Mass. (AHN) - The Boston Bruins have jumped right out of the gate in 2008 to a 8-3-3 record and a tie for first place in the Northeast Division with Buffalo. A large part of the team's success can be attributed to goalie Tim Thomas, who boats a 5-2-2 record with a 1.85 goals against average. His 2008 play has him on par with some of the best goalies in the league. In his most recent game, Thomas gave up only two goals on 36 shots against Toronto Nov. 6 in a 5-2 win. He has not given up more than three goals since the season opener. Most experts have no clue where this stellar defensive goaltender came from. Thomas was drafted in 1994 by the Quebec Nordiques 217th overall. Since that time, Thomas has been a journeyman at best. After being drafted, he finished his time at the University of Vermont and graduated in 1997. His professional career has seen him on teams like the Birmingham Bulls, Houston Aeros, Hamilton Bulldogs and Boston Bruins. He has played in the IHL, AHL and finally NHL. At the age of 34, he is only in his fourth year of NHL hockey but the bruins are happy to have him. Last year in 57 games, he posted a save percentage of 92.1 and a goals against average of only 2.44. Thomas will do his best to continue his winning ways as the Bruins try to stay in first place as the team plays the likes of the Blackhawks and Canadians in the coming days.
