Nashville, TN (BANG) - Jessica Simpson was snubbed by the Country Music Association awards. The "Come On Over" singer - who released her first country music album Do You Know earlier this year - had reportedly asked to perform at the ceremony, held on Wednesday.

However, Jessica was allegedly told by organizers she couldn't attend because they had no space, despite non-country music guests including Lil' Wayne, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman making an appearance at the event.

It is rumored Jessica was snubbed because the awards were presented by Carrie Underwood, who used to date "The Dukes of Hazzard" star's boyfriend Tony Romo.

Instead of performing at the glamorous ceremony, Jessica played to a half-empty bingo and casino hall in Arizona.

Speaking ahead of the performance at San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino, Jessica, 28, said: "It's a very intimate show and it just gives me a chance to stand up on stage and let people know who I am and where I'm at in my life and what I've gone through and hopefully be some sort of inspiration to anybody there in the crowd listening."

The snub is the latest setback to hit Jessica's new musical direction.

Her album and single were not as successful as hoped and she was booed at her first country music concert in July.

The 28-year-old blonde launched her new sound at the Country Thunder Festival in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, but the unimpressed audience heckled her throughout the show.

Jessica has claimed she wants to make country music for "the rest" of her life.
