Washington, DC (AHN) - An aide to Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) was arrested and subsequently fired from his post after authorities said he received and distributed child pornography.

Jeffrey Rosato, who is also a senior policy advisor on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, was arrested Nov. 7, the same day he was fired from Boxer's office and charged with one count each of receipt and distribution of child pornography.

Rosato appeared in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va. Nov. 12 and was released on his own recognizance. A judge said he cannot have access to children or computers, the Washington Post reported.

The FBI said an unnamed person arrested in a sting for exchanging child pornography with a reported 13-year old child, also distributed child pornography to Rosato.

Authorities also found child pornography on Rosato's laptop computer.

Rosato, 32, joined Boxer's office in 2005. His congressional salary was $101,020 a year, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

He previously worked for Sen. Bob Torricelli (D-NJ), starting as a staff assistant in 2001.
