Chelsea, England (AHN) - Fabio Capello, manager of England's national squad, shocked fans when he made the bold move of calling up Michael Mancienne for a match vs. Germany in this week's friendly game.
This will be Chelsea defender Mancienne's first time playing under Luiz Felipe Scolari. Recently, he has become a major planning point in England's Under-21 league.
The call up follows a move from Chelsea to the Wolverhampton Wanderers on October 27. He had complained of a lack of opportunities, which now seem to be opening up to him at a surprising rate.
He will be with the Wanderers until the end of December, when he will be returned to Chelsea.
England's captain John Terry has voiced his approval of Mancienne being chosen.
"He will gain from the experience and his form has been fantastic for Wolves." Terry told ESPN. "They have had three or four wins since he has been there and he has got a bright future ahead of him.
In 2006, he was offered a chance to play for the Seychelles national team. He rejected it, for a chance to play for England.
