New York, NY (CNS) - Designer Marc Jacobs has agreed to pay a $1 million fine for allegedly bribing a New York state official so his company could get a venue for his fashion show.

New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo says Jacobs' company, Marc Jacobs International, wanted the government-run 69th Regiment Armory for its venue during the fashion week. The company paid more than $35,000 in cash and goods to former Superintendent James Jackson for the use of the location.

Jackson, who pleaded guilty to the bribing charge on November 7, had been demanding payment from Jacobs and from others for access to the building. He is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

Cuomo said Jacobs and his company would not be charged with the case following the settlement.

In addition to the $1 million settlement, the fashion company also agreed to have a private company review its operations for two years and report to Cuomo.
