Washington, D.C. (AHN) - A U.S. congressional panel has raised the alarm over the country's vulnerable computer network which has enabled China to steal vast amounts of sensitive military and commercial information via cyber espionage.

The warning was contained in an annual report released Thursday by the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission. The commission composed of six Democrats and six Republicans was formed by Congress in 2000 to advise, investigate and report on U.S.-China affairs.

The panel stressed in the report the weakness of the US government and economy against cyber-space attack because both are heavily dependent on computers and the internet. China is also infiltrating U.S. computer networks because it is difficult to trace cyber attackers.

The panel recommended to lawmakers that more money be allocated for securing computer networks against Chinese hacking.
