AHN Staff McLean, VA (AHN) - Even if unemployment rate in the U.S. reached a 14-year high of 6.5 percent, there are still vacancies waiting to be filled. The top 25 jobs in high demand were identified Thursday by Jobfox, an employment portal based on 4,000 vacancies posted the past 30 days. According to Jobfox the jobs still in high demand in the New York metro area are claims workers, market researchers, account and customer support and social workers. With 240,000 employees losing their jobs last month, the good news is that some of the jobs in the list do not need long-term on-the-job training. It includes interviewers, medical equipment preparers, teacher assistants, physical; therapist aides, postal service workers and funeral attendants. More details on these jobs that could be filled with short-term training are founding the book "150 Best Recession-Proof Jobs" written by Laurence Shatkin. Barry Lawrence, career expert of Jobfox, told Newsday, "People tend to think when a recession comes that all hiring stops... There still are job opportunities, but there certainly are fewer." Shatkin, in his book, recommended jobseekers try jobs that are vital to everyday living, but are not glamorous such as water and liquid waste treatment workers, pest controllers, funeral staff, tax collectors and adult educators.
