Savannah, GA (AHN) - A 19-year old man shot and wounded a fellow student on the campus of Savannah State University on Friday, police say, causing the school to go on lockdown.

Devon McIntosh shot the victim, whose name has not been released, in the arm and abdomen, police said. The victim is expected to survive. The shooting happened at 11:42 a.m. Friday morning after the two men got into an altercation in the University Commons housing facility.

McIntosh faces charges for aggravated assault and possibly more charges.

He surrendered after a police dog sniffed him in the trunk of his car on campus about five hours after the shooting. Police theorize McIntosh was going to hide in his car until he could escape under the darkness of night.

After the shooting, a SWAT team surrounded the building where McIntosh lived. Police entered the building and found the handgun used in the shooting.

Four students witnessed the shooting and identified McIntosh within 15 minutes. A tip led police to McIntosh's car. Students were informed of the shooting through an automated messaging system.
