London, England (CNS) - English actress/model Elizabeth Hurley has been slammed by animal welfare activists for appearing in a new campaign ad for a fur company.

Hurley, 43, has signed a deal with American fur house Blackglama, and reportedly earned $450,000 from the offer.

The company's "What becomes a legend most?" ad features the "Bedazzled" star wearing only a black fur coat as a top.

As expected, her move has provoked the ire of the activist group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Director of PETA Europe Robbie LeBlanc said, "It's shocking that she's taking money to wear baby minks, who are skinned at six months old for Liz's luxuries."

"Her wardrobe is now as dead as her film career. Millions of animals are electrocuted and skinned alive, suffering terribly for the production of fur."

"With so many fantastic faux furs available there is no excuse for the wearing of real fur."
