AHN Staff New York, NY (AHN) - With the continued decline in the prices of petroleum, only three states and the District of Columbia are selling unleaded gasoline above $2 per gallon, a survey showed Sunday. A poll conducted by private motorist group AAA that at least 47 states are selling gasoline below $2 a gallon, with the state of Missouri with the lowest average price at $1.553 a gallon, followed by Oklahoma at $1.651. Gasoline prices have been sliding across the nation as petroleum prices have continued its dip after jumping to a record $147.21 on July 11. Fears of global economic slowdown and decline in demand for oil, have been pushing the prices of oil downward. In the U.S., reduced travel by motorists is also influencing the prices of gasoline. The states where gasoline is being sold above $2 a gallon are Alaska, Hawaii and New York together with the nation's capital, according to AAA. Alaska sells the highest at $2.78, followed by Hawaii at $2.722. In New York, motorists have to pay $2.199 a gallon of gasoline and Washington, D.C., is at $2.044.
