El Paso, TX (AHN) - A 32-year-old American woman has become the latest victim of a drive-by shooting in the violence-wracked Mexican border city of Juarez.
Officials of the Thomason Hospital in El Paso said Ana Lourdes Hernandez Guzman died Tuesday at the hospital, where she was taken shortly after being shot in front of her home in Juarez. El Paso County and Juarez police are verifying the identity of the victim and her residence because she was shot in Mexico but died in the U.S.
Guzman and two people fatally shot inside their SUV with Texas plates on Wednesday, were the latest American victims of violence in Juarez, where more than 1,400 people have been killed this year because of an ongoing war among drug trafficking and human smuggling gangs.
On Nov. 22, El Paso residents and Texas Tech Health Sciences Center workers Roberto Martinez and Ruth Sagredo Velasco were killed when gunmen rained bullets on a funeral procession for Sagredo's sister.
