Washington, D.C. (AHN) - President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush have purchased a home in Dallas, Texas where he plans to stay after he leaves office, according to the White House.

In a statement, press secretary to the First Lady Sally McDonough said the president bought a home in the Preston Hollow neighborhood in Dallas. "They will continue to spend time at Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford, Texas. The President and Mrs. Bush do not have occupancy of the home, and therefore, no additional details will be provided," McDonough added.

The President and the First Lady lived in Dallas from December 1988 through January 1995 before moving to Austin to live in the Governor's Mansion.

Bush officially turns over the White House to President-elect Barack Obama on inauguration day on Jan. 20. He said last month that he would like to be remembered as the president who "liberated 50 million people and helped achieve peace."

The First Lady told CBS' "Early Show" in an interview on Wednesday that leaving the White House was "bittersweet" but that they were looking forward to going home to Texas.

"You know when you move here that you'll just have four years, or eight years if you're reelected, and so you know all the time that there will be a day that you leave... I think from them, from [former First Lady Barbara Bush and former President George H.W. Bush], our father and mother, that we have a really good example of life after the White House... we look forward to going home to our home state. But we say goodbye with great gratitude to everybody here that works at the White House," she said.
